AP audit

A review of accounts payable transactions for errors and leakage.

Definition

An accounts payable (AP) audit is a structured review of AP transactions, vendor records and payment controls to find errors, duplicates, fraud indicators and process weaknesses. It can be performed internally, by external auditors, or continuously with software.

Why it matters

AP is where money leaves the business, so small error rates translate into large absolute losses. Regular AP audits also strengthen the control environment external auditors rely on.

How SpanFin helps

SpanFin runs a set of deterministic controls — duplicate payments, duplicate invoices, credit/refund mismatches and data-quality checks — on every uploaded file, with an exportable audit trail for each finding.
